Still recovering: Since you said, "still drags some" that would imply to me that the foot is not dragging as much as prior to surgery. Therefore, my guess is that things are better and may continue to get better. I agree with physical therapy, seven weeks is still early for completely assessing the outcomes of a spinal fusion surgery.

EMG?: There are other resons for foot drop such as a pinched nerve behind the knee or in the leg. (peroneal neuropathy) it may be too early to see recovery of foot drop from L5 nerve root compression. The taller you are the longer it takes for damaged neurons to re-sprout axons. Was an emg-nerve conduction study done prior to surgery. You might start thinking about getting a study done.
