Persistent swelling: After an ankle sprain symptoms generally resolve in 1-2 weeks but it is not out of the ordinary to take up to 6-8 weeks. If you have been resting, the swelling should be done by now. If it is not improved, there may be more than just a sprain. Special x-rays or an MRI scan to look at the talus would be the next step in evaluation.
