Hard to predict: The initial drainage was likely triggered by the pressure caused by buildup of mucous and pus behind the ear drum. This was released as drainage started.As the antibiotic begins to kill off the germ, the reason for drainage declines and eventually stops. Persistence of drainage after a week would be unusual and prompt a call to your doc.
