Typically not,: I prescribe this medication commonly and most of my patients complain of initial drowsiness. But, everybody is different. As i would advise with any medication, if you are not having a serious side effect, stick and out for at least 10 days and see how it goes. If you feel this is an issue, then discuss it with your doctor.

Rare, not impossible: According to the side effect data collected for clinical trials that were reviewed by the FDA, topiramate insomnia risk ranges between 4 to 9%, depending on the dose and the study population. Somnolence occurred with much greater frequency - around 28% in some settings. The prevalence of topiramate-associated insomnia in the clinical trials was just barely higher than placebo-associated insomnia
