6 days to be sure: Home pregnancy tests are pretty accurate, but to be completely sure, it is best to wait about 6-7 days after the first day of a missed period. A test 2 days after a missed period may be a false negative. Pain similar to a prior ectopic pregnancy, however, should be evaluated by a physician.
