Increased: An increased risk of stroke is one of the possible complications of hypertension. Other risks include kidney damage, heart disease, aneurysm, as well as accelerated atherosclerosis of all your arteries causing circulation problems for all parts of the body. Ask for a referral to a cardiologist for more aggressive management. If there is obesity then that needs attention as well.

Needs control: Hypertension (high blood pressure) is a major risk factor for stroke. Fortunately, it is a one we can control. Current recommendation is to keep it under 140/90 unless there are other conditions present (heart disease, diabetes, stroke). Then.
