Sleep needs: A pubertal child should never get less than 9hr sleep/night ; during a growth spurt may need more. After he hits her final height /stage he can get by on 8. Sluggishness at this age can be caused by a variety of issues.

See below: Optimally, approximately 8.5 to 9.5 hours a night. Try to regularize your bedtime and wake up time to get you towards that goal. Start "winding down" an hour before bedtime by brushing your teeth, avoiding snacks, and just relaxing, if possible. Avoid electronics, caffeine, vigorous exercise, and bright lights before bedtime.
