Apthous ulcer,torus: I would need to see the spot but most comonly it is an apthous ulcer like a cold sore which can be painful and recurrent.

Lump: If the bump truly fluctuates in size, it may be a cyst or mucocele. Your dentist could examine and advise you and refer you to an oral surgeon if needed.
