Knee Pain: Many things can cause knee pain including a fracture or break typically diagnosed by x ray. Most fractures cause pain when you walk. Other causes include a ligamentous strain or tear as well as a meniscal tear. Swelling of the joint or an effusion can be associated with an internal injury of the knee. To diagnose a ligament or mensical injury an exam and possible MRI are needed.
