If : If a patient has a fall and has pain in the knee, with swelling present, then an x-ray may be indicated to determine if there is a fracture. If the pain is persistent, then a cartilaginous or ligamentous cause must be considered as a possibility. Using advil (ibuprofen) and an ace wrap, along with ice and elevation, are reasonable but if the pain persists then a medical evaluation is reasonable.
