Brace yourself...: A body jacket is a rigid brace used to protect your spine by immoblizing it. It is custom fit for the individual; usually by an experienced orthopedist; and the user needs to be instructed in how to both put it on; and take it off. It can also be utulized to treat children with severe curvatures of the spine(or scoliosis).

Body development: Your body develops in its natural way, but people with gender identity disorder are very uncomfortable in the bodies they have. Many will say that from a young age, they felt they had the "wrong" gendered body. As secondary sexual characteristics develop, their misery grows. There is much depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide in this population.

A 18-year-old female asked:

The weather is warm but my body feels cold. I wear my jacket. I get covered with sweats but the cold doesn't go. Is there something wrong?

Dr. Alvin Lin

Infection vs hypothy: Feeling cold when everyone else is warm is a sign of hypothyroidism. Or potentially anemia, too. But combination of fever, sweats & chills makes me think of infection. Usually infection is accompanied by other symptoms eg cough, sore throat, sinus pain, burning upon urination, pus pocket, red streaks, etc. Best to go see your Family Doc for evaluation & treatment as appropriate.
