A 24-year-old female asked:
how long does mineral oil take to work? (tbsp since fri) no bm.

Variable time: I assume you are taking mineral oil for constipation. In my experience I have seen mineral oil work rather quickly or not at all. If it doesn`t relieve constipation after 5 days it probably wont help. Depending on the reason for constipation, you may need a different medicine or further dietary modification.

A 24-year-old female asked:
Is it correct that mineral oil is not absorbed and thus has not nutritional value?

Dr. Randy Baker answered

Negative value: Not only does mineral oil have no nutritional value but it can interfere with the absorption of fat soluble vitamins (a, d, e and k).
I do not recommend the use of mineral oil and, if ever used, should only be used on rare occasions.

For constipation?: may have little effect. If you are constipated for long time, may want to try other medications and eat more fruits and vegetables
