Scars respond best to vitamin E and other emollient oils when the wound has just healed. If it has been there awhile, the oils are less effective. As time passes upon healing, the vitamins and moisture provided by the oils helps to nourish the newly healed skin and support the process of remodeling as it grows into a scar. Gentle massage over time can help to minimize scarring.

Congratulations on moving on from your self injury. There are different kinds of scars, and depending on the depth and extent of skin injury, it may take months to years for the scars to blend into the background. Cosmetics may be your best bet - covering foundation or Dermablend or similar opaque make-up.
