Amoebic infection: This is an infection from a protozoa ( amoeba) which requires specific antiprotozal antibiotics and stool cultures.

May need them: Giardia lamblia is a flagellated protozoan parasite that colonizes and reproduces in the small intestine, causing giardiasis. Treatment is not always necessary as the infection usually resolves by itself. But in others, the illness is acute or symptoms persist, and then medications are needed to treat it.

You don't.: Giardia requires antibiotic treatment such as metronidazole, tinidazole & nitazoxanide. Giardiasis is a waterborne illness caused by Giardia parasite.
