Depends...: There are a variety of causes of submandibular swelling. It depends on the duration of the swelling and whether he/she has other associated (fevers, chills, vomiting, etc). Most commonly it's from a virus, cysts, salivary stones or infection. Most worrisome is an infection called ludwig's. He should be seen by his pediatrician.
