Few days or weeks: Mild, uncomplicated cases of mesenteric lymphadenitis usually go away on their own within a few days or weeks. Over-the-counter (otc) pain relievers and anti-inflammatories (tylenol, motrin, advil) may help relieve discomfort. Antibiotics may be prescribed if there is suspicion of a bacterial infection.
