AVN OF A CHILDS HEAD: Of the femur. The blood supply to the growth plate of the bone at the end of the femur becomes inadequate. As a result, it softens and breaks down. At least half of the cases heal fine without specific treatment, but bedrest and or crutches, plaster casts or a special brace in severe cases. For severe damage, surgery is needed to cut diseased bone and re align. No re growth promoting drugs so far.
