Yes: Simply put, if you are obese, you can be short of breath for many reasons. You could be cardiovascularly out of shape, causing shortness of breath (sob). Or, you could have something called "pickwickian syndrome" where the abdominal obesity affects your breathing simply by too much abdominal mass not allowing the lungs to expand. There are other reasons too, but these are the main ones...
