Dry socket: When you have a tooth extracted, a blood clot forms in the socket area that is left. If for some reason the clot is lost, this area is left open and exposed, causing a dry socket. There is usually pain involved with a dry socket. See your dentist to have the area irrigated and possibly packed to ease the pain. Sometimes antibiotics are indicated.
