What are reasons why would a person not wake up after being sedated in the icu?

Many: There are many reasons for a patient not to wake up after sedation. First, many other drugs that are administered in the ICU can have an effect on mental status. Physiologic conditions including alterations in electrolyte levels or changes in circadian rhythm can have an effect as well. Also, problems with the central nervous system may cause issues. Clinical work up will help reveal cause.
