Self harm: Is one way of dealing with painful or distressing emotional states, just like other addictions to substances and behaviors can be. People try to avoid experiencing certain things through these methods. For some people, self-harm provides a physical expression of, and an outlet for, suffering. Seeing the blood is soothing to some of these people, but there are healthier ways to live than this.
