How come some people take more than one type of antihypertensive medication? isn't that dangerous?

No: Each anti-hypertensive medication, regardless of class, lowers BP by 10-15 points on average. If BP is high, multiple drugs, judiciously chosen, working by different mechanisms are routinely administered to reach target BP.
