Not usually: Only one "cold sore" type can appear on the tongue, and that is herpes. As this is a virus, something has to set it off or allow it to occur. If your poor hygiene is a reflection of you being run-down and your immune system being weakened, then it is possible. But typically we do not see a frequency of herpes on the tongue due to poor hygiene. Hope you get things cleaned up. Good Luck.
