Never: When you have an abscess, using warm compress is the last thing you want to do. The opposite. You need to use cold compress. An abscess is an accumulation of pus, which can travel through fascia, the layer between muscle and bone, and develop into am infection needing hospitalization. Cold compress will "solidify" the pus making less likely to travel, while warm compress will make it more liquidy.
