Higher risk of clots: Pregnant women have a higher risk for developing blood clots in their veins, and subsequently increasing their risk for thrombo-embolic disease, including deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolus, and stroke. These things are very rare in pregnant and non pregnant women, but your ob/gyn doctor can order some blood tests to see if you have a "hyper coagulable state" and prescribe heparin.
