Possible seizure: Confusion with no explanation in epilepsy typically suggests either a medication side effect especially if there is a feeling of oversedation, or breakthrough seizures. Checking a Lamictal level to see if this is in the right range may be a way to see if the medication is not enough to adequately control seizures. Pushing the dose may be one way to see if the episodes go away.

See below: Agree with dr. Lin. Waking up confused is concerning for epilepsy especially with a past history, but it can also be fragmented sleep due to a sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea. If you have bitten your tongue, wet the bed, or have body aches, it can further point to seizures. It is best to consult a neurologist, at this point, to evaluate your events at night ; manage your lamictal, if needed.
