Hard to say: If you are having bowels obstruct, then you need surgery. Better to repair this when you are doing fair than an emergency. You have an emergency bowel obstruction and it could mean weeks in the hospital. An elective surgery is six times less risky.

Bowel rest : Ussually not eating and rest. But if you have a real bowel obstruction you need to be in the hospital.

Possibly, but...: Abdominal/pelvic surgery usually causes fibrous tissue to be formed, worse if major surgery, infection or peritonitis. Over years, can lead to adhesions, which often compress bowel tissue, which may lead partial or complete small bowel obstruction. If obstr. Suspected, must be evaluated and possibly hospitalized. Bowel rest, IV hydration may work; but surgeon must evaluate and may need to operate.
