A member asked:

Can a resting pulse rate of 160+ in er be considered regular sinus tachycardia? or is it svt?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

The answer is maybe: If you are resting and calm it is unlikely to be sinus tachycardia. In normal conditions your resting heart rate should be between 60-100 bpm. However, the only way to diagnose the actual rhythm is with a 12-lead ecg. If you are exercising or anxious, you normal sinus rate could go up as fast as 190 BPM (220-age) without representing svt.
