A member asked:

Will a recent herpes diagnoses cause a pap result to be lsil?

Probably not: The virus that causes herpes and the virus that can cause lsil are two different viruses. A diagnosis of herpes will typically not cause your pap test to be abnormal.

Possibly.: Pap smears detect many things. What they are looking for is cancerous cells which have been infected by the human papillomavirus or hpv. Other infections are seen, like chlamydia, and herpes. These can alter the appearance of cells, resulting in a mistaken diagnosis, or they can appear together. Therefore patients usually get treated for something like herpes and go for another pap.
