MRI: Is a good test looking for tendonitis. It does not assess the tendon dynamically so "snapping hip syndrome" without tendon changes on MRI can be missed. If the diagnosis is in question (and many things can cause pain in the area you describe) a second opinion may be useful. Ultrasound can be useful as it can concentrate on the area of pain and be done dynamically.
