Possible: The elisa test can be affected by different infections, causing a false-positive result. After any positive elisa, a follow-up test is performed by a 'western blot' which takes longer to perform, but gives a more sensitive answer. If you or someone you know had a positive HIV by elisa, they absolutely need the follow-up testing (including a full std/sti work up).
