Depends : Once decay has worked through the enamel(outer layer) and into the dentin(softer layer), the decay can spread through it very rapidly. Depending upon how much decay is in the dentin and its proximity to the nerve chamber will determine whether it is fillable or in need of extraction.

Depends: Great question, but only your dentist will be able to tell you. An xray and examination will be needed to determine your problem, your treatment options, and benefits of each. With that information you can make an informed decision on what solution is best for you. But go soon, before it hurts, because delaying treatment will get more complicated and expensive and may limit your options.

Chipping tooth: You may have chipped the filling that was done and should be looked at by a dentist to see what needs to be done before it worsens causes pain or is potentially lost.

Filled probably: You will need a dental exam to determine what needs to be done to save the tooth. If the cavity is relatively shallow, it may need a filling only. If deeper into the pulp or causing irritation to the pulp, it will need a root canal and crown. From your description, it sounds like the tooth can be saved and won't need to be pulled.

Dental visit: Xrays and symptoms along with a visual exam and some intraoral tests such as ice or heat will yield the status of the tooth determining the correct treatment.
