Paresthesia: Is a prickling, tingling or burning sensation. The classic description is a "numbness" or "pins and needles" feeling. After a dental local anesthesia administration you ca feel paresthesia of the lower lip. The manifestation of a paresthesia may be transient or chronic.

Nerve Dysfunction: Chronic paresthesias are common in diabetics from the development of diabetic neuropathy. Paresthesias can be caused by acute nerve trauma, or spinal pathologies. Less commonly recognized is vitamin B12 deficiency that is masked by Folic Acid supplementation. Sequelae from B12 deficiency are irreversible. Some common medications cause B12 deficiency. Megablastic anemia doesn't need be present.
