A member asked:

Is lipemic serum a cause of concern for a 10 month old baby?what does it mean?should we investigate further?

No worries now: This is just a note the lab makes if there's some dietary fat in a specimen. This is common in non-fasting blood and there's really no reason for a baby to fast for ordinary blood work.

If re-testing after : 8 hours without a meal ;#40;poor baby!;#41; still has milky serum, there is a positive family history, ; a lipid panel shows high levels of triglycerides/other fats, then a geneticist can test for syndromes associated with this finding. In an otherwise healthy infant whose physical exam is normal, anything that turns up would likely be something that responds to dietary management.
