A member asked:

What is the typical age for a child to start having underarm odor and needing deodorant?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Puberty: As early as age 8 (even 7.5) in girls. As early as age 9 in boys. The average girl starts puberty about ten. Average boy about age 11. If signs of puberty before 8 (girls) or 9 (boys) see your doctor. If no signs of puberty try some antibacterial soap. Some children can get body odor before puberty and it is not a sign of a problem, but you might want to ask your doctor next time you see him/her.
