Trapezius pain: Sleep flat in bed without a pillow. Use either a heating pad set on low or an ice pack, whichever is more comfortable for you. In addition, see a physical therapist for exercises.

Muscle strain: Can act like this. Occasionally a disc problem. Rest, ice early on, heating pad later. Once relieved, stretches and toning can reduce recurrence. If persistent be seen.
