A member asked:

I have been smoking for last one and a half year (about 6 cigarettes a day), will it appear on my chest x ray?

Destroys lungs: Won't show up now, not yet. It will for sure one day when it is too late. Smoking does no good. If you stop smoking now, you will keep your lungs healthy.

NO: Very unlikely that you would have a visible sign of smoking on x-ray after only a 1/2 pack-year smoking history. Now, why don't you just quit altogether? At only 6 cigarettes a day it would be simple to quit if you really wanted to. Think of all the money you'll save, as well as a much healthier lifestyle. Good luck.

Non specific: Usually smoking appears on chest radiograph as prominent central markings which can also be seen in viral infection, reactive airway disease, and inhaling polutants.
