IV or GA?: What type of dental surgery? Do you have any medical problems that require you to be hospitalized for this surgery? General anesthesia is not required for most patients and most dental surgeries, and carries more risk that IV sedation which is usually more than adequate. In fact, most surgeries can be done with local anesthesia alone (or in combination with nitrous oxide\oxygen analgesia).
