Certainly. Your : dentist may have placed it to correct tongue-thrusting that has caused an anterior open bite, overbite or cross-bite. Some people lisp, some have a sibilant S sound; others simply have abnormal forces on swallowing that push the teeth out of alignment. See before & after photos above.
