Impacted teeth: The fact that a tooth is impacted indicates it is not normal and therefore cannot be removed in the same "normal" way. Some impacted teeth are straight and just under the gum line and are relatively easy to remove while others are severely impacted by bone and angulation and require removal of bone and\or sectioning of the tooth.

Surgery normal: The removal of an impacted tooth is not a simple one. Normally, the impacted tooth will need to be surgically exposed since it is covered by skin and/or bone. The surgeon can then remove the tooth, sometimes in sections. Most are done under sedation but not always necessary. It can be easier on patient.

NO: No. Since the tooth is under the gum (and maybe the bone), a gum flap has to be created and often bone removed. For best results with wisdom teeth, make sure you are evaluated and treated by a board certified oral & maxillofacial surgeon.
