A member asked:

Could diabetics build their muscles when blood sugar is high?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Hi. Kind of a tricky question. If you're type 1 and don't have insulin on board, the muscle is in a catabolic (break-down) state, and you wouldn't build muscle. If you're type 1 with insulin on board, but just had a bunch of sugar so your BG's high, then yes, you could build muscle. Type 2 is more variable, but it still comes down to whether muscle is in a catabolic state or not in hyperglycemia.
