It may be ...: Blood in the stool is never "normal". Most of the time it is caused by swollen anal veins - hemorrhoids. Warm baths with epsom salts and a cream like anusol help those. However, if there is a persistent discharge, there may be an underlying inflammation or infection - a type of colon inflammation or an anal infection like an abscess.
