OTC sleep agents: Common OTC sleep aids include Chamomile tea, 5-HTP, Melatonin and Valerian Root. Sleep enhancing foods include warm milk, turkey, cherries, oatmeal, bananas, wine and others. You can become accustomed to the effects of things like Benadryl (diphenhydramine) and other drugs so they will no longer work but the tea and Valerian root don't seem to do that.
