Varies: Depending on the person. There are two categories of thyroid medication. First are the synthetic variety that only contain one type of thyroid hormone (T4). The desiccated or "natural" types of medication contain both T4 and T3 which the body produce. Some people do well on just T4, like synthroid, (thyroxine) while others do better using a combination medication (T4/T3), like nature-throid or armour.
