A member asked:

Hey docs, what hormone controls blood glucose while fasting?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Interplay: Hi. Only insulin can lower blood sugar. Glucagon, epinephrine, cortisol, & growth hormone raise blood sugar. During a short fast (e.g., overnight), it's mostly interplay between insulin & glucagon. As longer fasts are encountered, the other hormones (esp. cortisol) play increasing roles.
