I'm curious what could happen if mucus in the stool is left untreated?

Stool: Mucus is a lubricant in our GI tract – so a small amounts needn't be a concern. However if there are large amounts of mucus especially if associated with blood or abdominal pain– that warrants evaluation. If there is a major change in bowel habitus that is ignored -a medical condition may go untreated.
