Difficult: Children who do not receive love and attention from parents (or parent substitutes in their lives) can have a lot of difficulty with attachment, self-esteem, and being able to have healthy relationships. Being loved and cared for by our parents is one of the most basic needs as a child. It isn't only specific abuse that causes trouble, but also neglect and lack of emotional attachment by parents.
