Impetigo is caused: By 2 bacteria, most often "staph", occasionally "strep." it's often on the face, around or in the nose of toddlers ; spreads by contact with the infected sores or nasal discharge or by kids' scratching a lesion, then touching an area of broken skin. It's not really saliva-spread, but kissing a tot with nasal lesions ; a drippy nose isn't a good idea, especially if you have cracked lips/skin.
