No, mostly.: Nothing like this is forever, as long as you truly believe it isn't. "mind over matter" is a real thing, and goes a long way. Seeking the right professional help, really following the advice, surrounding yourself with positive energy for all of your senses (happy music, nice smells, soft fabrics, sunlight), and letting your friends and family support you instead of isolating are a good start. : ).

PTSD is treatable: But the person may be too frightened or depressed to seek it out. It does not have to be permanent and prognosis is better today than years ago. It is important to go to a professional or inpatient clinic that specializes in ptsd. Group therapy and sometimes clinical hypnosis, and possibly medication can be used in treatment. Maybe you or a friend can go w/him, at least at first.
