Call your dentist: There may be an infection... The swelling is perfectly within expectations: sometimes there is swelling after the start of root canal therapy. Your dentist will determine if you need an antibiotic.

What to expect: It's impossible for us to know but any swelling needs to be brought to the attention of the dentist treating you. Call and discuss this issue. If you were my patient, i would want to get you back into the office to check it out.

See Dentist: Call the Dentist. If it requires more than one visit, then there must be significant infection which needs to resolve. Once started, the infection can build-up and not have a release because the tooth is sealed. The Dentist will open the tooth up (remove the temporary seal) and let it drain.Sometimes a drain will be placed. You may also need an antibiotic to attack the infection systemically.Good Luck

Not normal: After the root canal treatment, you may have some swelling and certainly some pain. If swelling does not decrease after 1 week call your dentist immediately for post root canal evaluation and treatment if needed.
